Encapsulation

Encapsulation literally means to put something within a capsule. We use this term correctly when talking about the specifics of data being contained within a network packet as it behaves much like a capsule, however in many other circumstances when talking about Encapsulation we actually mean Encryption (for example we may refer to data flowing over a VPN as being encapsulated when it is both encapsulated and encrypted).
