This page has been designed to be a one stop guide to help you back up all of your Pipe Ten website’s data, we will show you how to create a full back up of your hosting account including databases, emails, and any custom configurations.
Arguably the most important part of your website, you will want to keep this content backed up as often as your content changes.
If your domain requires any custom control panel configurations we recommend you take a backup of these by either recording the details into a document or by taking a screenshot of the control panel.
To backup your website’s data (directories and files) the quickest and simplest way is to use FTP to download a local copy to your computer. Details of your FTP credentials can be found via the hosting control panel and then used with an FTP program such as FileZilla.
Possibly the second most important part of a website are databases (if you use them), you will want to take a backup of them on a regular basis because although you may not have made changes to your website recently your database is likely to always be changing.
We recommend you keep a backup of your database configurations such as users/passwords, assignment to database and any custom settings (such as transaction log size).
The easiest way to record this information is to take a screenshot of the hosting control panel or if you require a list of all database users and their passwords you may request one from the support team.
Backups for MySQL should be taken using a third party tool such as the supplied phpMyAdmin or a local tool such as mysqldump. Further information on MySQL backups can be found within the MySQL databases support resources.
In the case of POP3 email it is likely that you have already downloaded all of your emails and as such have the ability to restore these via any backups taken of your local computer, for IMAP you may wish to occasionally back up any emails left on the Pipe Ten mail server.
The recommended method to back up your email configurations (such as names of mailboxes, forwarders, autoresponders, anti-spam settings) would be to take a screenshot of these settings from the hosting control panel or if you also require a list of all mailboxes and their passwords you may contact the support team.

Pipe Ten maintains disaster recovery backups for all shared infrastructure in the event of critical software or hardware failure, it is however your responsibility to ensure that you have your own local backups at all times.
